PUR stands for moisture-curing reaction-type polyurethane hot melt adhesive. Its main component is end isocyanate polyurethane prepolymer. PUR adhesives contain polar and chemically active urethane or isocyanate groups in their molecular structure, which provide excellent adhesion to materials with active hydrogen, such as wood, leather, fabric, paper, ceramics (porous materials), as well as smooth surfaces like plastics, metals, glass, and rubber. PUR hot melt glue melts into a fluid when heated under conditions that suppress chemical reactions for application; after the two bonded substrates cool down, the adhesive layer solidifies to create a bonding effect; subsequently, it reacts with moisture present in the air and moisture adhered to the surface of the bonded substrates to extend chains and generate high-strength polymer compounds that significantly enhance adhesion strength, heat resistance, low-temperature resistance, etc.
The category of hot melt adhesives is quite broad; most hot melt adhesives are operated by heating and can be reheated for use after bonding, making them reversible. In contrast, PUR is a moisture-reactive hot melt adhesive that reacts with moisture in the air after heating and bonding; once the reaction is complete, it becomes irreversible (i.e., it will not melt upon reheating). Therefore, PUR's characteristics include high cohesive strength and strong bonding strength. It has excellent high-temperature and low-temperature resistance that far exceeds ordinary hot melt adhesives.
